Introduction: On April 06, 2015, India-based leading telecommunication company Bharti Airtel Limited (Airtel), announced the launch of an open platform - ‘Airtel Zero’. As the name implied the platform would allow free access to certain internet services like e-commerce, chat applications, and gaming portals. Srini Gopalan, Director, Consumer Business, Airtel drew a parallel between Airtel Zero’s business model and toll-free services. He said Airtel would collect the charges for the data usage of its customers from the app service providers.
